Gihan Marasingha

Senior Lecturer, Mathematics, University of Exeter

Gihan is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Exeter. He teaches mathematics at every level, from large first year calculus classes to specialised graduate lectures in algebraic number theory.

He is passionate about bringing the beauty and importance of mathematics to the wider community. He does this partly through his role as Academic Lead for widening participation and outreach for the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

He works closely with the specialist Exeter Mathematics School, a specialist A-level school that arose as a joint venture between the University of Exeter and Exeter College.

In a broader outreach role, he regularly sets puzzles for the "Puzzle For Today" segment of Radio 4's Today programme.

In May 2014, Gihan won Best Lecturer at the Exeter Students' Guild Teaching Awards.

His research focus is in analytic number theory, a subject intimately connected to the study of prime numbers.
