Huatong Sun

Dr. Huatong Sun is Associate Professor of Digital Media and Global Design at the University of Washington Tacoma. She studies how to design and innovate for inclusive and empowering technology in this globalized world to bridge cultural differences. She is an award-winning book author, including “Global Social Media Design: Bridging Differences Across Cultures” (2020) and “Cross-Cultural Technology Design: Creating Culture-Sensitive Technology for Local Users” (2012). Her writing can also be found in Fast Company and The Conversation. She's working on a new book "Inclusive Digital Media Design for Global Users: A Handbook for Critical-Minded Design Students and Professionals."

Dr. Sun speaks at top international academic and industry conferences and offers inclusive design workshops locally and worldwide. Her community-engaged teaching practice is recognized with the Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication and the Distinction in the Practice of Diversity and Inclusion Award.
