Professor of Mental Health, University of Aberdeen

Ian Reid is Professor of Mental Health and Clinical Lead for Psychiatry at the University of Aberdeen. He has a long-standing interest in depressive disorder, and his current research portfolio ranges from trans-species molecular and imaging studies to analysis of treatment strategies in primary care.

Chair of the RCPsych special committee on ECT, his recent work focuses on the biology of the efficacy and adverse effects of therapy, encompassing clinical trials and neuroimaging projects.

He trained in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, obtaining a PhD in neuroscience as a Wellcome Research Fellow in Edinburgh. He has supervised eight doctoral students and has given a talk on antidepressants to Skeptics in the Pub, Aberdeen.
