Jamal Barnes is a Lecturer in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University. His research interests focus on international human rights issues, such as torture, detention, and refugees.

Jamal has lectured at the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University and the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of 'A Genealogy of the Torture Taboo', published by Routledge in 2017.
