As a registered nurse Jane has enjoyed a career in the NHS, higher education and the charities sector.

Building on a career of substantive posts in acute care (Theatres), and higher education, Jane has enjoyed a portfolio of posts in the last eight years including, Nurse Advisor WHO 2nd Global Challenge Safe Surgery Saves Lives (Geneva), Nurse Advisor to the NPSA, President of the Association for Perioperative Practice (AfPP), Intervention Lead Patient Safety First ( Perioperative Care), Associate Dean (Nursing and Allied Health Professions) Bournemouth University and Dean Somerset Academy.

Jane’s current portfolio includes Researcher Queen Mary’s University, London; Nurse Advisor to the National Quality Board Human Factors Sub-Group, Non- Executive Director Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Visiting Professor Bournemouth University and Independent Advisor.

Special interests include, professionalism, human factors, patient safety, compassionate care, continuous quality improvement, nursing, healthcare ethics and law.

In July 2013 Jane was recognised by the Health Service Journal/Barclays and the NHS Leadership Academy as one of the most inspirational women in healthcare. Identifying individuals who live the values they espouse, the authentic leaders, the Judges said "Jane welcomes people and they leave feeling valued and motivated."
