Janette Turner joined the Medical Care Research Unit in 1991 as project manager for an evaluation of a regional trauma system in the UK. Since then she has completed a number of large research projects in the area of pre-hospital care, ambulance service 999 call assessment systems and major trauma.

In recent years she has worked closely with the Department of Health Ambulance Policy Team to support implementation of policy changes in ambulance service performance measurement. She is currently leading an evaluation of the new NHS 111 urgent care telephone number and is joint Principal Investigator on a 5 year NIHR Programme Grant to develop new ways of measuring quality of ambulance service care.

Her research interests are evaluation of new services, pre-hospital care and healthcare systems development particularly in emergency and urgent care.
