Jason A. Higgins

Post-doctoral fellow in digital humanities, Virginia Tech

I am a postdoctoral fellow in digital humanities and oral history at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the Center for Humanities, VT Publishing, and the History Department. I earned a Ph.D. in History from UMass Amherst, where I studied Modern US, Global, and African American History, and specialized in the Vietnam War and veterans’ experiences. I also hold a master's in English from Oklahoma State University. I am the co-editor of Service Denied: Marginalized Veterans in Modern American History (UMass Press 2022). My forthcoming book, “Stars, Bars, and Stripes: Veterans in the Age of Mass Incarceration” is currently being peer-reviewed and is under contract with the University of Massachusetts Press in the Veterans series. I have completed over one hundred oral history interviews with military veterans from WWII, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars.
