Dr. Jason Hickel is an anthropologist at the London School of Economics. He specializes on globalization, finance, democracy, violence, and ritual, with a regional focus on South Africa. He is the author of "Democracy as Death: The Moral Order of Anti-Liberal Politics in South Africa" (California Press, 2015). In addition to his academic work, Jason contributes regularly to The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and other online outlets. His work has been funded by Fulbright-Hays, the National Science Foundation, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, and the Leverhulme Trust.
