Associate Professor of Meteorology, University of Oklahoma

Dr. Basara is an Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma and has a joint appointment between the School of Meteorology and the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science. Dr. Basara’s specific research interests are focused on the integration of our understanding across weather, climate, water, and ecosystems with a specific focuses on processes that drive environmental extremes and associated impacts. This includes (flash) drought, excessive precipitation and floods, land-atmosphere interactions, the physical processes which impact the development of the planetary boundary layer, urban meteorology, severe weather, and the development, validation, and improvement of instrumentation and models that improve monitoring and predictability of extreme events. Many of these research projects require collaboration with other scientists and interdisciplinary partnerships. In addition, Dr. Basara serves as the Executive Associate Director of the Hydrology and Water Security Program at the University of Oklahoma and leads the CHEWe Research Group, which you can learn more about here.
