I am an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida's College of Public Health where I serve as Director of the DrPH program in Public Health and Clinical Laboratory Science and Practice. In addition, I also provide mentoring and coursework to students in the Infection Control and Global Communicable Diseases Masters programs, and undergraduates studying the Health Sciences and Public Health fields.
My research experience and interests are in the use of molecular techniques such as pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, sequencing, and other methods to characterize microorganisms from sources such as foods, clinical samples, and environmental samples. The goal of these projects is to correlate the molecular data with epidemiological information about the organisms tested to further our knowledge of food safety, infection control, antibiotic resistance, and bioterrorism defense.
