Jillian Spivey Caddell

Jillian Caddell is lecturer in nineteenth-century American literature at the University of Kent. She writes and teaches about the intersections of history and literature, with an emphasis on the long Civil War and texts by Herman Melville, Emily Dickinson, Henry James, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps and more. Her work has appeared in The New England Quarterly; J19: The Journal of Nineteenth-Century Americanists; Literary Cultures of the Civil War (ed. Timothy Sweet); Visions of Glory: the Civil War in Word and Image (eds. Kathleen Diffley, Benjamin Fagan); and public venues including CNN Opinions and Apollo: the International Art Magazine.
