John Charles Skinner

Senior Research Fellow, Indigenous Health, Macquarie University

For two decades Dr John Skinner has worked in a variety of research, policy and management roles in the NSW Ministry of Health. In 2014 John was appointed as the Director of the Centre for Oral Health Strategy NSW where he led the development of the Oral Health 2020 and the Aboriginal Oral Health strategic plans for NSW. He completed a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Sydney in 2017. In March 2018 he commenced at The University of Sydney as a Senior Research Fellow at the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. He is an Executive member of the Aboriginal Chronic Conditions Network at the Agency for Clinical Innovation and was previously Chair of the National Oral Health Plan Monitoring Group. John has a particular interest in research co-produced and co-implemented with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities as well as the social contract of the Universities to partner with Aboriginal communities in research to improve access to services and scalable research outcomes. He joined the Faculty of the Medicine, Health, and Human Sciences at Macquarie University in 2022 as a Senior Research Fellow Indigenous Health and became a foundation member of Djurali Centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education and Research in 2023 based at Macquarie University.
