John De Maio is a researcher who joined the Institute in 2008, to work on the Evaluation of the 2006 Family Law Reforms. His research has focused on family law and family transitions. He has also been involved in evaluating family law programs aiming to improve collaboration between family law service organisations and assist parents resolve their post-separation parenting arrangements where there has been an alleged experience of family violence.

Since mid 2013, he has been undertaking research examining the settlement experiences of recent humanitarian migrants in the Longitudinal Study of Humanitarian Migrants.

Prior to joining AIFS, John worked at the Institute for Child Health Research where his research investigated the health, education and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and families.
