Musician, lecturer, Western Sydney University

John Encarnacao lectures in music at Western Sydney University. He is the author of Punk Aesthetics and New Folk (Ashgate, 2013) and co-editor with Diana Blom of Teaching and Evaluating Music Performance at University (Routledge, 2020), as well as academic chapters on Courtney Barnett, Pink Floyd and Throbbing Gristle. His interests as a performer and composer extend from power-pop and folk rock to free improvisation and chamber music. Recent albums include Wooden Box With Strings by Warmer (2020, Half a Cow) and Giraffe Quartet and Duets (2021, Psychopyjama). He is currently working on a book about Ed Kuepper's album Honey Steel's Gold for 33 1/3.
