My two research fields are twentieth-century Catalan literature and culture, with special attention to Llorenç Villalonga’s fiction, and twentieth-century Spanish literature, focusing on Pedro Salinas’ love poetry and Luis Cernuda’s use of dramatic monologue, his discourse on ‘hispanidad’ and his engagement with issues of canonicity. One of several bridges between these two fields is the impact of Ortega’s thought on Catalan and Spanish writers who came to the fore in the 1920s and 1930s. Another one is the narration of the ‘nation’ in post-Civil War texts.
