Jos van Buerden

Dr. Jos van Beurden is researcher colonial cultural collections and restitution (affiliated to the Free University, Amsterdam). His pioneering study Treasures in Trusted Hands – Negotiating the Future of Colonial Cultural Objects (Leiden 2017) put the issue on the agenda and was nominated for the NWO Boekman Dissertation Price in the Netherlands. Earlier he wrote The Return of Cultural and Historical Treasures – The Case of the Netherlands (Amsterdam 2012). Forthcoming is Inconvenient Heritage – Colonial collections and restitution in the Netherlands and Belgium (Amsterdam, 2022). For his merits in the cultural heritage field, he was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange Nassau in 2012. Jos van Beurden is founder of the news-clipping service RM.
