Joseph Stanford is a Doctoral Researcher in Sport and Exercise Psychology and has been at Nottingham Trent University since starting his higher education in 2015.

Alongside his research, Joseph is also the Director of Coaching of Nottinghamshire’s County Swim Squad and has over 10 years of applied coaching practice. Throughout his time as a coach, he has sought to expand and develop his theoretical and empirical knowledge to apply to his on-deck coaching.

His current research explores how individual’s personalities impact their performance through the relationships that they create. More specifically, focusing on the coach-athlete relationship in high performance environments. Additionally, his research and applied practices are aimed at developing athletes and coaches understanding and application of personality theory to maximize performance at all levels.
