My interests in the field of education have developed from my experience as a secondary English teacher in Australia and in the United States of America; and doctoral work on gender, class and English teaching undertaken in the US. Since working in higher education in Australia I have taught English/literacy to pre-service and in-service teachers and published in this field. I am especially interested in the ways in which texts are created and comprehended in this digital age. Recently I have been engaged in projects which aim to develop high quality teachers for contemporary society.
