I am an Earth scientist and oceanologist passionate about understanding the impact of climate and environmental change on marine ecosystems, with a particular focus on tropical coral reefs. My research focuses on obtaining geochemical information from coral skeletons with the purpose of: (1) expanding our knowledge of ocean temperature and acidification, as well as terrestrial runoff, and (2) unraveling the mechanism of biomineralization to understand how environmental changes affect calcifying marine organisms, such as corals. A significant aspect of my work focuses on reconstructing and understanding the effects of thermal stress and coral bleaching, especially in relation to the calcification process. My interest lies in employing sclerochronology tools to provide a long-term perspective on the changes that have occurred and continue to occur in coral reefs.
