PhD Candidate in History, Aberystwyth University

Judith Tulfer is a PhD candidate in the Department of History and Welsh History at Aberystwyth University, where they hold a Pennar Scholarship. Their research focuses on written charms from mid-Wales and the economic aspects of their use between 1840 and 1939, during a time of significant scientific and industrial progress.

Having previously studied for Masters degrees in medieval studies and theology, Judith has wider research interests in the connections between society, magical practices and religious belief, especially in Wales and East Anglia during the modern period. Their background includes teaching theology, and managing community regeneration projects, with a specialism in drug and alcohol recovery.
