Dr. Julia Freeman is a Faculty Lecturer with the Bieler School of Environment. She holds a PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Studies from the University of British Columbia (2012). Dr. Freeman is a qualitative social researcher concerned with sustainability challenges and their attendant social controversies. She is a proud recipient of the 2018 McGill University Catalyst Award for Faculty Contribution to Sustainability and has been nominated for teaching awards at the Faculty and University level. Her work has investigated the governance of emergent agricultural biotechnology in India across both urban and rural contexts. Current interests include social and urban sustainability, the pedagogy of environmental debates and climate action, and human-plant interactions.
