Julie Wargo Aikins

Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences, Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute, Wayne State University

I am a child clinical psychologist whose primary focus has been research regarding children and families for the last 21 years. Primarily my research attempted to understand the role of peers in children's lives and their impact on socio-emotional adjustment. I am particularly intrigued by the potentially compensatory function of friendships for children in contexts of poor parent-child relationships or other contexts of risk. I have been grant funded for the last 10 years, have 20 plus publications in my field, and am a lead researcher on numerous projects examining peer and family experiences.
