Justin Schlosberg

Lecturer in Journalism and Media, Birkbeck, University of London

Justin Schlosberg is a lecturer in journalism and media, and the author of Power beyond Scrutiny: Media, Justice and Accountability.

His research takes a critical look at accountability both through and of the media, drawing on theories of dominance such as Primary Definition and the Propaganda Model, and adapting them to the complexities and nuances of journalism in the digital age.

His work is thus firmly situated within an emergent ‘neo-functionalist’ school of thought which holds that if anything, ideological forces in the media are resurgent, ultimately shaping (and containing) mainstream media output in the interests of power.
