Senior Lecturer, Department of Geography and Rural Development, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

Abass Kabila is a Senior Lecturer and an Urban Geographer in the Department of Geography and Rural Development, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. He holds a PhD in Geography and Rural Development from KNUST. He also holds a Master of Philosophy and a Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Geography and Resource Development from University of Ghana, Legon.

With an Urban and Medical Geography background, he has spent fourteen years of his academic life in KNUST teaching and conducting research in his field of specialisation. He has taught a number of courses both at graduate and undergraduate levels including Techniques of Geographic Research, Spatial Organisation of Human Societies, Regional Tourism Resources and Tourism Resources of West Africa. Currently, he teaches Development of Geographic Thought, Resource Analysis and Cities/Urban Studies. His research works are largely urban focused. His recent research focused on the following key areas: Peri-urbanisation; urban sprawl; urban land use and land cover change dynamics; urban livelihood activities; health risk perceptions studies; adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDs. He has peer reviewed papers in his field for a number of top journals such as Journal of Affective Disorders, Women & Health, Gender, Place and Culture, geografisk tidsskrift-danish Journal of geography and BMC Public Health.
