Kaitlyn Ugoretz is a PhD Candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara and an expert in Japanese religions, globalization, digital technology, and popular culture. Her dissertation research focuses on a digital ethnography of global Shinto practitioners and the growth of online Shinto communities. She is more generally interested in issues relating to authority, authenticity, belonging, and innovation in East Asian religions in the age of digital technology and social media. Kaitlyn has experience consulting on Japanese religion and popular culture for game and animation projects, and she hosts the educational YouTube channel, Eat Pray Anime.
