Kamal Ramburuth-Hurt is a researcher for Southern Centre for Inequality Studies (SCIS) in the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management at Wits University. He is the co-founder and former chairperson of Rethinking Economics for Africa at Wits University. Kamal holds an undergraduate in Economics and Politics as well as an Honors degree in Applied Development Economics (cum laude). During the course of his studies Kamal has been involved in a range of activities as a student activist. He is currently pursuing his Master’s degree at Wits University. Kamal is currently working on a research project focusing on the black middle class and black economic empowerment in democratic South Africa.
