Karen Barry

Dr Karen Barry is a Senior Lecturer and Research Fellow. She specialises in fungal plant diseases and health of horticultural crops and forest systems. She has conducted research to examine plant-pathogen interactions, plant responses to stress and detection with remote sensing, disease management and plant relationships with beneficial fungi. Karen teaches undergraduate fungal biology, plant pathology, crop protection and grant writing skills.

As well as being an active researcher and lecturer, she has several years’ experience in graduate research management, both within the School of Land and Food and for the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology in her capacity of Deputy Associate Dean (Research). Through collaboration with workplace psychologists and mental health experts, she has initiated studies into wellbeing in PhD candidates, and is passionate about supporting the PhD journey in all aspects.
