Visual Communication Design Academic, University of Technology Sydney

Kate Sweetapple is a design academic who explores the intersection of words and images through exhibitions, installations and printed matter. Her research interests include information visualisation that is poetic/playful; experimental and speculative design practice; and, the role of the designer as a cultural critic and agent.

In 2004 Kate completed her doctorate, “The Rhetoric of Distance: a model of the visual narrator in design”, which uses a literary framework to explore contemporary visual communication artefacts. The intersections between design and literature continue to be a research focus.

Kate is a founding member of Page Screen, a design research studio, based at the University of Technology, Sydney.
