Lecturer in Mental Health, University of York

Katie's research interests include the socioeconomic context of mental health and stigma; mental health and social security; structural forms of stigma; public attitudes towards mental illness and experiences of stigma; social contact as a stigma reduction initiative.

Katie completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology before training to become a registered mental health nurse. She gained experience across a range of clinical settings in both Yorkshire and London before deciding to pursue a career in research.

Katie completed an ESRC funded PhD at the University of York in 2019. Her research focused on the socioeconomic context of stigma and mental illness, with particular reference to the UK social security system.

Katie is currently working on projects relating to food insecurity and mental health.
