Associate Professor of Sociology, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Dr. Kelsy Burke is an associate professor of Sociology at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, where she studies how sex and religion collide in contemporary America. She is the award winning author of Christians under Covers: Evangelicals and Sexual Pleasure on the Internet (2016, University of California Press), a book that analyzes online Christian sex advice to understand the sometimes contradictory and often surprising ways that some evangelical Christians talk about sexual pleasure. Kelsy is currently writing a second book on contemporary debates over pornography (forthcoming from Bloomsbury 2022), for which she has interviewed and observed a wide range of pornography’s opponents and sympathizers, from porn addicts to porn stars. Kelsy is also co-PI with Dr. Emily Kazyak on a National Science Foundation grant examining laws and people’s reactions to religious freedom and LGBTQ rights.
