I'm an ex-national newspaper reporter now lecturing in Journalism and Sports Journalism at UWS (University of The West of Scotland). I have a PH (D) from Glasgow University for my novel Hunting Captain Henley.

Ken has a Ph (D) from Glasgow University for his novel Hunting Captain Henley -'at its best it's as good as Conrad's Heart of Darkness' - Willy Maley - Professor of Renaissance Studies, Glasgow University. His post-doctoral work is published in The European Journal of Life Writing (University of Amsterdam). His journalism has appeared in The Sunday Times and The Guardian. He was a finalist at The Guardian International Development Journalism awards for his reportage from Uganda/DR Congo and is published in the AJE (Association for Journalism Education) journal. In April 2021 he was published in The International Association of Literary Journalism Studies journal (University of California) - New Solutions, Merging Academic and journalistic research with the literary to improve international development journalism and his investigative journalism is most recently published in The Times & The Sunday Times - Psychiatric Patients Left Unbathed And Unwashed (Feb 2022), Anger Over Yousaf's Student Nurses Claim (Daily Mail, Feb 2022) Nuclear Deal May Fund Scottish Army (Sunday Times August 2020), Scots Clinical Director Jason Leitch's Indian Charity Accused of 'dastardly acts' (Sunday Times Nov 2020). In January 2022 Ken presented a paper 'Taking The Flak - Exposing The Ku Klux Klan For Print and Broadcast' at The Association for Journalism Education Conference and is presently researching material for written submission to the AJE Journal (May 2022). In the past he has spoken at City University in London where he presented a paper on Journalism Education in a Global Context and invited to East Sussex University to read from his new novel Take Me To Neuville (Hanbury Agency, London) and to examine aspects of the literary alter-ego and its impact on literary reportage and journalism. In July 2019 he presented at The World Journalism Congress in Paris. He previously presented his literary reportage at the ACLA (American Comparative Literature Association) at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver where his work was reviewed as - original and inspirational. An ex-newspaper reporter Ken was previously a staffer at The Sunday Post in Glasgow and The Sunday Sun in Newcastle. He was one of the first reporters on the scene at The Lockerbie Disaster as well as covering the collapse of communism in Russia and the First Gulf War (from Jerusalem). He has interviewed Lech Walesa in Gdansk, run with English football hooligans in Genoa, and infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan for The Scotsman newspaper. He is presently editing his new novel - Blitzed - an alternative view of The Clydebank Blitz (presently with Guts publishing) and is interested in innovative and creative approaches to combining literary reportage with mainstream journalism.
