Honorary Professor, Centre for Criminal Justice and Police Studies, University of the West of Scotland

I have worked at Hamilton since 1972 teaching on a range of programmes in social sciences, criminology and policing. From 2002 until 2007 was Head of School of Social Studies at Bell College, and from 2007 to 2013 was Director of the Centre for Criminal Justice and Police Studies at UWS.

Involved in the provision of higher education for police officers for over forty years. Have been, and continue to be, active in a wide range of police research activities both nationally and internationally, including a number of projects for police forces and organisations.

Co-editor of the standard modern text on policing in Scotland, and contribute widely to print and broadcast media on policing and criminal justice matters.

Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) 2011

Research interests include policing in Scotland, police governance and accountability, police policy and practice, police training and education and Scottish criminal justice.
