Professor Kim Usher is an experienced academic leader and researcher recognised both nationally and internationally. During more than two decades as a senior academic leader she has initiated and led strategic change across schools, universities, government departments, professional groups and international bodies. Kim has held several key positions during this time including Head of School of Health at UNE, and Head of School of Nursing at JCU. Kim’s research areas of interest focus primarily on issues related to mental health including the psychosocial impact of emergencies and disasters, psychopharmacology, substance use and the impact on the individual and family, alcohol related injuries, but also include family centred care and family carers, consumer and family experiences in health services, Indigenous health (especially mental health), and workforce issues.
