Kyari Mohammed has been professor of history at Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, Adamawa State in Nigeria since 1985. He has also been chair of the university's Centre for Peace and Security Studies since 2012.

Professor Mohammed is one of Nigeria's leading scholars on the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency and counter insurgency. He has researched the security and politics of northern Nigeria, the role of Boko Haram in the region's security.
