Professor and Senior Brawn Research Fellow, University of Newcastle

Kypros Kypri BA(Hons I) PhD is Professor and Senior Brawn Research Fellow in the School of Medicine and Public Health, University of Newcastle. He holds a Senior Research Fellowship from the National Health & Medical Research Council. He has published over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals, has an H-index of 45 and over 6000 citations.

He was trained in experimental and clinical psychology at the University of NSW, University of Otago, and University of California San Diego, and completed a PhD in injury epidemiology (awarded 2003) at the University of Otago. With the input of many colleagues he has established an alcohol research group at the University of Newcastle which is the hub of several national and international collaborations. These involve methodological, aetiological and intervention studies addressing the disease burden attributable to alcohol consumption.

In recent years he has started to study the efforts made by tobacco, alcohol and gambling industries to subvert science and influence public policy. He is also conducting research on government agencies' purchasing of research in ways which may undermine rather than advance the public interest.
