Lance is an aquatic ecologist with an MSc by Research in fish ecology and more than 30 years practical experience across SE Australia, and the Pacific Islands, in freshwater, estuarine, coastal and inland environments in ecology and their management requirements.

While native fish ecology and water management are his passions, he has worked and published widely in ecology, water management, and wetland management in scientific papers and management reports.

Lance has worked at the Winton Wetlands site (then Lake Mokoan) since the early 1990s and now on restoration science activities since 2014. He really enjoys establishing partnerships with community, management agencies and science organisations to achieve the ecological restoration goals of the project.

The ecological renewal that is occurring at Winton Wetlands has required an understanding of the values of the site, the threats to these values and a knowledge of the ecological processes. These are being harnessed to ensure the values are enhanced and are sustainably managed to increase the connection people have with nature on the site.
