Laura Broome

Laura's doctoral research (completed in 2019) explored the communicative focus and deceptive properties of online sexual interactions between adults and children. Specifically, examination of the adults deceptive intent was explored when attempting to develop an emotional bond with an intended victim.

In addition, she has been involved in a collaborative project between Swansea University and NSPCC Cymru in creating a co-produced evidenced-based resource for Social Work professionals working with victims of, or those at risk of, online grooming. The resource was developed to help give professionals and young people a better understanding of the way adults who groom minors online develop a trusting relationship to facilitate sexual engagement. Laura is currently working on various multi-disciplinary projects with the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway in Wales and South Wales Police.
