PhD candidate, University of Sydney

Lauren Powell is a PhD candidate with the Dog Ownership and Human Health research node at the Charles Perkins Centre, University of Sydney. She holds a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience with honours. Her honours research saw her investigating the genetic basis of canine anxiety and fear memories. Her long-held interest in animal behaviour has now evolved to see her apply a broader research approach, considering both the human and canine side of the human-dog relationship. Lauren is currently exploring the hormonal pathways that allow humans and dogs to bond, particularly looking at oxytocin as a unique indicator of emotional wellbeing in both species.
