Associate Professor in Infectious Disease Modelling and Data Analytics, University of Bristol

Dr Leon Danon is an Associate Professor in Infectious Disease Modelling and Data Analytics and acts as Director of Data and Modelling at the Bristol Vaccine Centre. He has worked on infectious disease transmission modelling in networks, metapopulations and in spatial settings since 2004 and is an established expert in large-scale data analytics, with a focus on infectious disease surveillance. His modelling experience ranges from deterministic to stochastic models applied to SARS-CoV-2, influenza, smallpox, HIV and pneumococcus. He has experience using models that employ behavioural data, social contact patterns, mobility and commuting patterns, which are essential for correctly predicting the paths of infection. His research has been funded by UKRI, Leverhulme Trust, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, ECDC and Pfizer. During COVID, he contributed to the UK pandemic response efforts through SPI-M and Social Care Working Group subgroups of SAGE.
