Liezel's research interests are in the field of community, alternative, and indigenous media practices. At present, she is based in Tacloban City, Philippines as a postdoctoral research assistant for the study 'Humanitarian Technologies Project: Communications in the Wake of Typhoon Haiyan'. The project seeks to examine the uses and consequences of communications technologies in the recovery process of Haiayan affected areas.
