Luis Antonio Fonseca Chácharo

Research Professor in the field of Microelecronics, Instituto de Microelectrónica de Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC)

After obtaining my degree in Physics, I enrolled the Barcelona site (IMB) of the National Center of Microelectronics (CNM) belonging to CSIC. There I have developed my career to date. First, I accomplished my PhD in 1992, then worked for about ten years as process engineer in the Clean Room, the largest of Spain, that is the controlled environment where chips are made. After that period I applied and obtained a permanent research position. I have been Group Leader, Deputy Director, and (currently) Director of IMB-CNM. I have been involved in tens of projects, leading some of them, and published about 100 papers. My field of expertise deals with miniaturized gas sensors and energy generation or harvesting devices.
