Postdoctoral Researcher, Université de Lausanne

Dr Madeleine Pape (she/her/hers) is a sociologist and Olympian who competed for Australia in the 800m at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Pape completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2019 and is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Sports Sciences at the University of Lausanne. She has published in some of the leading journals of her field, including Gender & Society, Social Studies of Science, Body & Society, and Sociology of Sport Journal. Her research, which has been funded by the US National Science Foundation and the Olympic Studies Centre, examines gender inequality in sport and biomedical research, with a particular focus on how projects for women's inclusion in these two institutional spaces often come to endorse and encourage the scientific pursuit of sex differences. At the University of Lausanne, Pape is also working with Dr. Lucie Schoch on a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation examining the under-representation of women in international sports leadership.
