Associate Lecturer, Science and Journalism, Australian National University

Maria Taylor PhD is a casual associate lecturer in science communication at the Australian National University and a community newspaper publisher and editor. She recently completed her doctorate through the ANU Australian Centre for Public Awareness of Science, looking at the communication of climate change over the past 20 years in Australia.

Maria has extensive professional experience as a print journalist and editor and has won awards as a documentary film-maker, specialising in recent years on environmental, agricultural and resource management issues. She has worked for newspapers in the United States and Australia, and has also worked in the Australian federal government sector, both in-house as a communicator and as a consultant writer/journalist, editor and publisher.

Maria now publishes and edits a community news magazine in semi-rural NSW north of the the ACT. The focus is on sustainable living and issues related to the natural environment, cultural events and local government issues. She is looking forward to publishing her thesis work.
