Marian de Vooght is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Essex, where she has taught courses in translation studies and on the literature of conflict. She further worked at the universities of East Anglia, Konstanz, Trondheim and Texas. She translates poetry, mainly from Dutch into English, and her translations include the collected poems of Maurice Gilliams (The Bottle at Sea, Green Integer 2006) and the PEN Translates-awarded Song of Stars by Guus Luijters (Smokestack 2018), a book-length poem about Sientje Abram, a girl from Amsterdam who was murdered in Auschwitz. Her research focuses on political aspects of literature and canonization. She edited Poetry of the Holocaust: An Anthology (Arc Publications 2019), together with Jean Boase-Beier. She is also a Dutch teacher and has published on language learning and raising bilingual children.
