Executive Director, Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement, Northern Kentucky University

While I did some post-graduate work in American history (three semesters), I was already working in my chosen field, journalism, first as a reporting intern, then as a full-time reporter. I had a 28-year career at The Kentucky Post and The Cincinnati Post, sister newspapers in the Greater Cincinnati market. Most of my journalism career was spent as a newsroom editor, including the last seven years as managing editor for the two newspapers. I have some classroom teaching experience. I taught American history as a graduate student and I have taught journalism as an adjunct instructor. I came to NKU in 2007 to direct the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement, which works to connect NKU students to the community and the community to NKU. Internally, our center’s work includes developing service learning classes and encouraging civic engagement. Externally, we host a community lecture series and a community public affairs forum.
