- Molecular ecology of Australasian terrestrial vertebrates (including dispersal, population structure, gene flow, effects of habitat fragmentation, mate choice, phylogeography).
- Conservation biology of Australasian terrestrial vertebrates (including effects of isolation and population reductions, inbreeding, population fitness, adaptation to island environments, neutral and adaptive genetic diversity, population management).
- Chromosome structure and evolution, genome organization.
- Speciation patterns and mechanisms; inter-species hybridization and hybrid zones.
