I received my PhD in Genetics from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Southern California in Craniofacial Biology, and received board certification Medical Genetics. My major research contributions include ground-breaking studies of genetics/genomics and phenotypes in nonsyndromic orofacial cleft (OFC) families from many ethnicities; genetic studies of oral and dental diseases; multidisciplinary studies of oral health disparities incorporating the metagenome, host genome, behaviors and environment; and genetic studies of normal facial development. My studies have led to collaborations with colleagues across the USA, and in more than 15 other countries, representing all continents except Antarctica.
