Senior Lecturer, Department of Property and Construction, University of Westminster

I am a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader in the University of Westminster, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Department of Property and Construction. My academic achievements include BEng(Hons), MSc, (Structural Analysis), PhD (In Concrete). I am a member of ICIOB, and Fellow of Higher Educational Authority, FHEA.

My field of expertise include; Structural Analysis, Concrete-As-A-Material, Fire Safety Engineering, and dynamic loading. I have a strong interest in research in materials' properties for structural purposes, in particular concrete. I am currently supervising a number of MSc research in my fields of expertise. My publications are mainly relevant to the behaviour of concrete, A list is provided at the end of this profile.

I enjoy working with students and provide friendly and enthusiastic tutorial sessions to suit the individual students' needs. To enhance this activity I have taken a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. I keep up with current practices in my field and am particularly interested in applications of Eurocode in design and choice of materials.

My external activities are based on practice of structural design and consultancies in both public and private sectors, including building control departments of local authorities. They include; design projects ranging from bridge assessment, designing of underpinning schemes, structural surveys of high rise buildings to concrete frame analysis of an eleven-storey building. Consultation on floor loading for London Olympic 2012, Equestrian Deck. Floor loading for vibration testing of the athletics deck for Commonwealth Games 2014, Hampden Park, Glasgow. Vibration testing dynamic loading of the Grandstand Roof of Lord’s Cricket Ground, London 2015.

These experiences have given me the opportunity to bring the benefits of current practice in engineering to the classroom and to familiarise students with practical application of their topics and enhance my own teaching.
