Professor at the University du Québec à Montréal since 1992 and presently director of the Centre d'études et de recherches sur l'Inde, l'Asie du Sud et sa diaspora, and president of the Canadian Corporation for the Study of Religion. Boisvert has been trained in South Asian philology, but most of his research stem from an anthropological and sociological perspective. He worked on south asian pilgrimmage, asceticsm and marginalised communities such as hijra or South Asian communities in Canada.
