Matt Brennan is an author, musician, and researcher. He has served as Chair of the UK and Ireland branch of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM). His latest book, Kick It: A Social History of the Drum Kit (Oxford University Press 2020), establishes the drum kit's central role in shaping the history of music over the last 150 years. His previous monograph, When Genres Collide (Bloomsbury 2017) was named as one of Pitchfork’s “Favourite Music Books of 2017."
